The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry in India, partnering industry and government alike through advisory and consultative processes. CII catalyses change by working closely with government on policy issues, enhancing efficiency, competitiveness and expanding business opportunities for industry through a range of specialised services and global linkages. It also provides a platform for sectoral consensus building and networking. Major emphasis is laid on projecting a positive image of business, assisting industry to identify and execute corporate citizenship programmes. Partnerships with over 120 NGOs across the country carry forward our initiatives in integrated and inclusive development, which include health, education, livelihood, diversity management, skill development and water, to name a few.
INDIAN CHEMICAL COUNCIL (ICC) the apex national body representing all branches of the Chemical Industry in India such as Organic & Inorganic Chemicals, Plastics & Petrochemicals & Petroleum Refineries, Dyestuffs & Dye-intermediates, Fertilizers & Pesticides, Specialty Chemicals, Paints etc. The Indian Chemical Council is dedicated to the growth of the Indian Chemical Industry. Established in 1938, ICC has over the years grown its functions and offerings to cater to the varying needs of the Indian Chemical Industry. Recently the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, has authorised all Four ICC offices (Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai) to issue the CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN, which is an invaluable document, for the exporters. This is another important milestone achieved by the Association. in its service history. This service can be availed by both Members and Non-member exporters in the country.
Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) was formed in 1961 to help Indian manufacturers and to protect the interest of the Indian consumer. Membership of over 600 wholly-Indian large, medium and small companies. Members’ Export Record – about 65% of India’s total drugs & pharma exports over Rs. 33,000 crores growing at 22%.
More than 150 factories are approved by US FDA, UK-MCA, Australia and South Africa Authorities and many more are holding WHO-GMP certificates. India is ranked 4th largest country in terms of production volume after USA, Japan and Europe and 13th in terms of value.
Various issues of policy or operational nature relating to the structure and implementation of the Drugs Cosmetics Rules at Central or State level are taken up with the authorities through representations and follow-up meetings. Some of the important issues which have been taken up with the authorities in recent times are :
- Extension of validity of WHO-GMP certificates to five years.
- Six months grace period needed for implementation of overseas pharmacopoeia.
- IDMA’s representation on DTAB.
- Decentralisation of work regarding registration for import of drugs.
- Delay in testing of drugs.
- Licence/inspection fees for SSI sector.
- Reduction in 4 years period for treating a drug as ‘new’ drug.
- Adoption of manufacturer’s method of analysis in case of dispute.
- Menace of spurious drugs, etc.
